Terry Fitgerald.

fg

It is with great sadness we inform you that Terry passed away peacefully on Monday 28th June.

A farewell for Terry will be held at
Hastings Crematorium at 2.45pm
and afterwards at the Bo-Peep pub.

Perin and George have asked;

Dress code: None, whatever feels good, turtle outfits if you want. If kids are in school uniform ie pop over after school, that is not a problem either.
Ceremony: Non-religious, but there will be a quiet moment of reflection.
Noise Levels: If people want to cheer, whoop, call out, clap fine! The conductor will be warned! It may be quite nice to put in a standing ovation just before we leave him and this will be put in the programme so people will know it's OK. There will be lot's of tears, but people should laugh as well,
this is Terry's do.
Flowers: Family only.
Donations: To RNLI.

FEES 2010.

At its last meeting your Committee considered an income and expenditure forecast for the coming year.  It was decided that given the anticipated increases in expenditure and the fact that annual subscriptions have not increased for a number of years it would be prudent to review our fee structure for the coming year.  As you will be aware these fees are our only source of income and, despite the majority of teachers and coaches giving their time free of charge, these measures were considered essential to allow the club to continue to produce high performance swimmers.

Away Swimmers and Water Polo Players - £15 (members at University etc.)

50 Metre Pool.

At their meeting on 7 September the Hastings Borough Council Cabinet considered a report on the Hastings and Rother Leisure Facilities Strategy.  The recommendation was that the Hastings elements of the report prepared by consultants be adopted as an aspirational strategy for leisure facility provision in the town.

Following lobbying by the club the consultants had accepted that their interpretation of the future demand data was incorrect and that there was a shortfall of swimming provision in the town of some 8 x 25 metre lanes.  However, despite the likelihood that the closure of Summerfields would mean 14 – 15 lanes would be required to meet demand, they only recommended provision of a 25 x 8 lane facility.  Acceptance of the report would therefore have ruled out any chance of a 50 metre pool, split into 2 x 25 metres by a moveable centre boom, in the town despite this being the most effective way of providing the water area required.

However, following a lengthy debate in which it was clear that most members accepted that swimming was an important leisure pursuit, there was cross party agreement that the 50 metre option should remain open for now.  This was proposed as an amendment to the recommendation and carried unanimously.  It was pointed out that finance (both construction and on-going maintenance costs) would prove a problem but at least the option is still in play and swimmers can still dream of training and competing in first class facilities at some time in the future.
