The Lions Club of Hastings are probably best known for organising the Hastings Half Marathon, but we also raise funds in many other ways such as bucket collections, golf day, Easter Egg raffles and much more.

Whilst we are keen to help those less fortunate than ourselves, we have also recently made a conscious effort to support those organisations that encourage self development though endeavour.

XMAS CLOSURE TIMES 2011.

The last swimming session of the year for all but the
Racing Squads (R1, R2 and RT) will be
Thursday 22nd December. 
This will be our traditional 'Fun Night' with all swimmers
(and probably most of the Teachers/Coaches!)
having fun in the pool. 
Groups 1, 2 and 2/3 will be in the small pool
from 6.00 till 7.00
with groups 3 to 6 in the main pool at the same time. 
Club Lifeguards will be in attendance throughout.

Between 7.00 and 8.00 the main pool will host
Group 7 plus all the Racing squads, Gala and Club Squad.
  8.00 till 9.00 we will have lane swimming for Masters,
Racing 1 and Club Squad followed
at 9.00 by Water Polo.

With Monday 2nd January being a Bank Holiday
and the pool closed, swimming at Summerfields
will resume at normal times on
Thursday 5th January
and at Battle Abbey pool on
Tuesday 3rd.

The training times over the Christmas Period for
Racing Squads only are:

Monday 26th December - 8.00 am to 9.30 am - Mark
Tuesday 27th December - 8.00 am to 9.30 am - Mark
Thursday 29th December - 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm - James
Friday 30th December - 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm - James

All these sessions will be at the Battle Abbey pool.

Hastings Seagulls has been successfully revalidated for
swim 21 in Swimming at Foundation (masters),
Skill Development & Teaching level for the forthcoming
year 2011/12.

SUSSEX SQUADS 2001.

Six of Hastings Seagull swimmers; Daisy Earl, Ben Horner,
Emily Williams, JodieShoesmith, Victoria Turner
and Tom Creed qualified for selection in the 2011 Sussex
County Swimming squads.

They qualified via the BAGCAT points system which awards points to swimmers overthe widest variety of shorter
and longer distance events, across all strokes, at the
Sussex County Championships.

Throughout the year the Sussex County Amateur Swimming Association hold trainingand development days for those selected for the County squads.

The Senior Squad; which includes Victoria Turner
and Tom Creed; have represented
the County in Inter-Regional and National events; just recognition of Victoria and Tom’s extraordinary performances.

At the end of November, representatives of the Great Britain squad shall be workingwith some of the six Seagull Sussex squad members and their peers across theCounty;
providing a fantastic opportunity for those present to further develop their skills.

SEAGULL MEN SET COURSE RECORD
AT MASTERS MEET.

Four men from Hastings Seagull's won a team  race in a record of 2 minutes 34.5 seconds in Rushmoor Royal's  open masters' competition held at Aldershot on July 30th. 
The 200+ team ( their ages totalled more than 200 years)  of Tom Baker (backstroke), Paul Woolger (breastroke),
Mike Hazelden (butterfly) and Peter King (freestyle) swam successive lengths in Aldershot Garrison's 50m pool. 
Woolger avoided disqualification for incorrect style in the breastroke leg as his goggles slipped down his face at the start of his leg,  ended up in his mouth and had to stay there.  Individual successes in their respective ( 5 year ) age groups were achieved in butterfly by Hazelden ( gold) and King (silver) and in breastroke by Woolger (silver).
