Open Meets

The club attends various Open Meets during the year. These meets are a mixture of Level 1 , 2 or 3 short and long course Open Meets together with County, Rerional and National Championships. The Open Meets that the club attend are advertised both on the website and on the club notice board at Summerfileds. we also hold a mailing list of those swimmers who wish to receive an email notification of any meets electronically. If you wish to receive email notifications or wish to stop receiving them then either emial us via the Contact Us option or see someone at the club payment desk on a thursday night.

Each competition will be at a particular level and the qualifying times differ from competition to competition. Some meets will be on a faster than qualifying time basis, some will be on a slower than qualifying time basis and some will be based on submitted times being between a lower and higher qualifying time. Each competition is different so please read the notices carefully to see how they are run. If you are not sure whether a particular competition is right for you then either spaek to the Head Coach or the Competition Secretary.

It is the swimmers and parents responsbility to enter an open competition by the club closing date for the particular open meet. It is also their responsibility to provide the necessary information to enter including the swimmers ASA id and the time they are submitting (normally their Personal Best). It is therefore important that swimmers and parents learn to keep an up to date record of their Personal Best times.

Entry to an Open Meet is not guaranteed. If Meets become over subscribed then there is a possibility of rejection. Refunds are given on rejections but not on any races that you may be left with and decide not to attand.

It is the swimmers and parents responsibility to arrange their own transport to Open Meets and they must ensure that they are not late or the swimmer will not be allowed to swim. Each Meet usually publishes a set of warm-up times that the swimmers must be there for and it is now becoming normal that the swimmers 'sign-in' before a set time. Some Meets work on an active withdrawal system. This means that the swimmer or poolside coach has to actively inform the race organisers of withdrawal. If no withdrawal is notified and the swimmer does not swim then the club could get fined. There is also a possibility that a meet is run on a card system. Here the cards have to be given in prior the session to indicate participation. If a swimmer has enterd an Open Meet but for some reason cannot make it then please contact the coach attending the meet to let them know. Please also ensure that swimmers take enough food and more importantly drinks for the time they are at the Meet.

Swimmers are expected to wear club kit at all times.

If you are intending to enter an Open Meet for the first time then you will probably need to upgrade your ASA insurance category. If this is the case then please speak to someone at the club desk on a Thursday night.
